We used to be connected to the Earth Every minute of every day Bare feet dusting the ground Toes sinking into grass Whole body hugs As we abandoned ourselves to sleep Cradled in the earthen arms of our Mother Now it’s a whole lot of concrete, tarmac and brick Carpets, tiles and laminate Bare feet gone Soles made from plastic Nike, converse, louboutin Suffocating our souls While our bodies cry out For Mother’s touch It used to be a given That every day we would feel her caress Now we have to seek it out Make an event of A nature hike or park walk And all the while still Slightly disconnected In our fashionably shod feet
